Jun 22, 2013 · ok, taking a working machine on the network, I can manually set its DNS to google DNS 8.8.8.8 (not a DNS setting that is used anywhere else on my network). Allowing it time to settle; I can then ping local machines, inc router, and external sites by address and IP. But this is a working machine and could do all this before changing its DNS.
